Medium Caliber Chickpeas Crash

PANAMA - Jul 20/18 - SNS -- International trading levels for medium and small caliber kabuli type chickpeas crashed during the past week against fears of massive over production in Canada and the United States.

Preliminary yield results for first cut hay suggest Canadian yields will be below average, but the decline may not be large enough to offset the impact of this year's massive jump in seeded area or expected production gains in the United States.

Exporters in Canada have responded by slashing asking prices for 9mm and small caliber chickpeas in an effort to drive demand in their direction.
