MELBOURNE - Jun 21/18 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system will move further southeast of Tasmania during this evening, while a new high will move over the south of the continent over the coming days, with a ridge developing eastwards across the northern Tasman Sea. A ridge will also remain in place along the east coast of Queensland. These features will maintain fine and sunny conditions through most of Queensland over the next few days, although winds over eastern districts will tend more to the southeast, with shower activity returning to the east coast. Cool, dry air extends through most inland parts of the state with widespread morning frosts over southern and central Queensland during the coming day. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayFine and sunny across most of the state, with just the slight chance of showers about the exposed east coast and islands south of about Proserpine. Another cool to cold morning with early frosts across southern and central Queensland. Mostly moderate southwest to southeasterly winds, fresh at times over far northern parts.Friday 22 JuneThe belt of high pressure will continue to extend through most of Queensland, and will build further east across the Tasman Sea. This will produce an increase in the onshore component of the flow about the east of the state, leading to an increase in moisture and the chance of a shower about the east coast. The remainder of the state should remain fine and sunny. Morning frost areas will persist over parts of the central and southern interior. Daytime temperatures should return closer to average, with overnight temperatures returning close to the average about much of the east coast.Saturday 23 JuneThe belt of high pressure will continue to extend across the south of Queensland and along the east coast, although will gradually weaken. The onshore flow about the east coast will continue to support an increase in moisture and the chance of showers about the east coast and adjacent inland. Mainly fine and sunny conditions should continue over most other areas, apart from the slight chance of an afternoon shower over the far west. Morning frost areas over parts of the southern interior. Daytime temperatures should return closer to average.Sunday 24 JuneThe belt of high pressure will continue to extend across the south of Queensland and along the east coast, although will continue to weaken. The chance of showers about the east coast and adjacent inland persists due to the onshore flow. A developing upper trough over central Australia will result in some high cloud spreading into western and central parts, and the chance of a thunderstorm over the far southwest, however little or no rainfall is expected. Morning frost areas over parts of the southern interior, while daytime temperatures will remain close to average.Monday until WednesdayThe belt of high pressure will continue to extend across the south of Queensland and along the east coast, although will gradually weaken with time as a high pressure system moves over southeastern Australia and into the Tasman Sea by Wednesday. A large upper level trough will continue to develop through central Australia and move into western Queensland on Monday, possibly moving over far southeastern parts during Wednesday. This feature is likely to produce an increase in cloud and showers, and possibly some rain areas over central parts extending into the southeast, although relatively dry air beneath this cloud would severely limit any rainfall amounts over western Queensland. The onshore flow about the east coast will continue to support an increase in moisture and the chance of showers about the east coast and adjacent inland. Morning frost areas will persist over parts of the southern interior on Monday and Tuesday with overnight temperatures below average, however minimum temperatures warm through Wednesday due to the high cloud. Daytime temperatures should remain close to the average in most parts. The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 pm EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700 Notice Board MetEye extended into Queensland --> Twitter Media releases Severe Weather Update videos AskBOM videos Marketing Local Infomation Cairns weather Charleville Longreach weather Mackay weather Mount Isa Rockhampton weather Townsville weather Weipa Other Information Queensland - Local Forecast Areas Fire Weather Forecast Areas About Weather Forecast Services Marine Weather Knowledge Centre Severe Weather Knowledge Centre Warnings Water Climate Environment Tropical Cyclones Tsunami Warning Centre Agriculture - Water and the Land Marine & Ocean UV & Sun Protection Rainfall & River Conditions Graphical Views Radar Maps Rainfall Forecasts Seasonal Outlooks Climate Variability & Change Climate Data Online Seasonal Streamflow Forecasts Water Storage MetEye™ National Weather Services Aviation Weather Services Defence Services Space Weather Services Registered User Services Industry Solutions Supplier Entry Point Facebook Twitter Youtube Blog Google+ Careers Sitemap Feedback Freedom of Information Indigenous Weather Knowledge Glossary This page was created at 05:15 on Thursday 21 June 2018 (UTC) © Copyright Commonwealth of Australia 2018, Bureau of Meteorology (ABN 92 637 533 532) | Disclaimer | Privacy | Accessibility
