U.S. Dry Bean Seeding Half Complete
WASHINGTON - May 30/18 - SNS -- Farmers in the United States have planted over half of this year's dry edible bean crop, judging from available state level progress reports issued by the USDA.
Data available from states reporting progress suggest 55% of the crop is now in the ground, compared to 51% last year and the recent five year average of 46%.
North Dakota farmers were able to work their fields most of the past week, lifting seeding progress above the recent average for this time of year. The state reports topsoil moisture ratings as 11% very short, 26% short, 61% adequate, and 2% surplus. Subsoil moisture supplies rated 17% very short, 32% short, 49% adequate, and 2% surplus.
Above average temperatures aided crop development in Minnesota during the past week, while scattered rain showers had little impact on planting.
