Lentil Markets Steady
PANAMA - May 25/18 - SNS -- Lentil markets finished the week little changed with limited trading reported in both spot and new crop shipping positions.
Markets are waiting to see how much area is actually sown to the crop. This year's seeding intentions have not been accepted by markets. Since 2006, the intentions were below the final seeded area every year except 2011, when farmers planted 5% less than planned.
Seeding of this year's crop started the week at 80% complete in Canada. Given current weather conditions, it should be at least 90% complete by the time Statistics Canada starts its seeded area survey. Last year that was conducted between May 26 and June 12.
