Record Indian Pulse Harvest Forecast

PANAMA - May 16/18 - SNS -- India is forecasting a record pulse harvest across its 2017-18 production cycle, with output expected to jump 1.38 million metric tons (MT) to 24.51 million.

All of the increase is in the rabi season crop, with production expected to jump from 13.55 million last year to 15.5 million MT. By contrast, last year¿s kharif harvest is now pegged at 9.01 million MT, down from 9.58 million the previous year.

Given the pace of imports in 2017, total imports between April of 2017 and March should come in around 5.385 million MT. Though down almost 1.3 million MT from the previous fiscal year, the forecast rise in pulse output suggests 29.895 million MT of pulses were added to the country's residuals during the current fiscal year.
