Firmness in Field Peas
PANAMA - Apr 13/18 - SNS -- North American field peas markets finished the week's trading on a positive note.
Green pea markets were helped by a USDA PL-480 food aid tender in which the quantity sought for shipment from origin in May was increased from 80 to 20,650 metric tons (MT). Another tender for 8,000 MT of green split and 1,500 MT of yellow split peas also contributed to improved grower and processor sentiment.
Canadian markets, by contrast, saw a general improvement in export movement through the first week of April. Strong demand for field peas from farmers by the country's primary elevator system was seen as a signal export clearances will be good through at least the first half of May.
