Lentils In Nervous Mood

PANAMA - Mar 3/18 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week's trading in a nervous mood after India raised import duties on desi chickpeas from 40% to 60%.

This left exporters worried India would follow suit with lentils and other pulses in response to record 2017-18 pulse production.

Output of all food grains is expected to total 277.48 million metric tons (MT) across both last summer's kharif and the current rabi cropping season. Pulse output is expected to reach 139 million MT, up from 136.8 million last year in 2016-17.
