Australia -- Victoria Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Feb 22/18 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A low pressure system near the head of the Bight will pass near southwestern Victoria Friday night as an associated trough reaches far western Victoria. The low will move rapidly away to the southeast on Saturday as cold front crosses Victoria. The next high pressure system crossing the Southern Ocean will be centred just to the west of Tasmania by Sunday night, then will move slowly eastwards on Monday.
Forecast for the rest of ThursdayCloudy with areas of rain over southwest Victoria. Patchy rain extending to most remaining districts but dry conditions over the far east. Generally light winds.Friday 23 FebruaryEarly rain in the south during the morning, then a partly cloudy day with only isolated showers to follow over most districts. The chance of thunderstorms over the far west during the later afternoon or evening. Warm to hot with fresh and gusty northerly winds developing across western and central districts during the afternoon.Fire Danger -  High to very high grading to severe in the west.Saturday 24 FebruaryScattered showers extending across southern and mountain districts. Isolated showers over the northern plains but dry over the far northwest. Isolated thunderstorms in the east clearing by evening. Warm with fresh to strong and gusty northerly winds ahead of a cooler fresh westerly change extending from the west.Sunday 25 FebruaryScattered showers across southern and mountain districts becoming isolated during the afternoon. Dry and mostly sunny over the northern plains. Cool in the south, but a little milder over the north with moderate to fresh southwest to southerly winds, strong about parts of the coast.Monday 26 FebruaryFine apart from isolated showers near the coast during the morning. Mild in the south, but warmer north of the divide with generally light to moderate southeast to southerly winds.The next routine forecast will be issued at 5:00 am EDT Friday.Product IDV10310
