MELBOURNE - Feb 21/18 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system centred southeast of Tasmania will continue to move eastwards and weaken. Ex-Tropical Cyclone Kelvin over the southeast of Western Australia is expected to continue to move south to southeastwards to be over the Bight on Thursday, then move towards Tasmania on Friday. A cold front will move across southern coasts on Saturday followed by a high pressure system developing over the Bight on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA slight to medium chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the west of the North West Pastoral district. Patchy rain over the West Coast district and agricultural areas. Moderate to fresh northeast to southeasterly winds.Thursday 22 FebruaryPatchy rain over the southern and western coasts with a slight to medium chance of showers over the North West Pastoral district, the West Coast district, the agricultural area, and the southern parts of the North East Pastoral district. Isolated thunderstorms developing over the east of the North West Pastoral district and the north of Eyre Peninsula. Warm to hot in the south, grading to very hot in the north. Increasing humidity in the moderate northeast to northerly winds ahead of a milder, fresh west to southwesterly change in the far west in the morning, extending over western districts during the day. Winds strong at times about the West Coast district.Friday 23 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area, West Coast district and southern Pastoral districts. Humid in the far northeast with the chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms mainly on and east of the Ranges. Warm to hot in the south, grading to very hot in the north. Moderate northeast to northerly winds with a milder southwesterly change in the west extending throughout during the day.Saturday 24 FebruaryA slight to medium chance of showers over the agricultural area and the West Coast district increasing to medium to high about the far southern coasts. Showers easing and contracting to southern and far western coasts by the end of the day. Generally mild to warm the south grading to hot in the north. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds.Sunday 25 February A slight chance of morning showers about the southern and western coasts. Mainly cool to mild about the agricultural area, grading to warm to hot in the North East Pastoral district. Moderate to fresh southwest to southeasterly winds, easing during the day. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Sunday are expected to be generally less than 2 mm, increasing to patchy areas of 2 to 15 mm about the West Coast district and the southern agricultural area, with possible isolated falls of 15 to 40 mm in the far west of the West Coast district. Local falls of 15 to 30 mm are also possible with thunderstorms. Monday until WednesdayFine apart from a chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms developing over the North East Pastoral district later in the period.
