MELBOURNE - Feb 20/18 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system is passing to the south of Tasmania and will move into the Tasman Sea on Wednesday, extending a ridge up the eastern seaboard. On Thursday a low pressure system and associated trough will enter western parts of South Australia and move steadily eastwards, reaching western parts of Victoria later on Friday as a cold front enters waters south of the Bight. The trough and cold front will cross Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayPartly cloudy over far east Gippsland with cloud increasing in the far west. Clear elsewhere. Moderate easterly winds tending fresh and gusty at times in the south.Wednesday 21 FebruaryEarly fog patches about the eastern ranges. Cloud increasing from the west during the day with isolated showers developing in the southwest during the afternoon and evening. Generally warm with light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, fresh at times in the south during the morning, and afternoon sea breezes about the coastal fringe.Fire Danger - Generally High, Very High in the northwest.Thursday 22 FebruaryCloudy with patchy rain over western and central parts. Partly cloudy though dry elsewhere. Generally warm with light to moderate north to northeasterly winds, fresh at times in the south during the morning, and afternoon sea breezes about the coastal fringe in Gippsland.Friday 23 FebruaryMostly cloudy with isolated showers, mainly about western and central parts, tending scattered at times in the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms about the western and central districts in the afternoon and evening. Warm to hot with fresh and gusty northerly winds shifting moderate westerly in the far west later in the day.Saturday 24 FebruaryScattered showers, tending isolated about the northern plains, contracting to southern and mountain districts during the afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms in the east clearing by evening.
