India's Rabi Seeding Nearly Done

PANAMA - Feb 10/18 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's rabi season pulse crops is virtually complete in India, with area reaching a record 16.91 million hectares, up from last year's revised total of 16.19 million.

Farmers planted another 263,000 hectares of pulses during the week, compared to 258,000 during the same week last year and the recent average of 105,400.

On average, 99% of all pulses which will be planted are in the ground by the end of the first week of February and seeding normally wraps up by the middle of the month. This is also typically the case with wheat, rice and oilseeds, though coarse cereal grain plantings typically continue through the third week of February.
