Reduced Available Mustard Stocks

PANAMA - Jan 12/18 - SNS -- Available supplies of domestically grown mustard seed are down dramatically in the United States, reflecting the impact of last year's drought on yields in North Dakota and Montana.

At 103,000 acres, seeded area was virtually identical to last year. But the proportion of abandoned fields rose from 4.8% ton 7.4%, while average yields per harvested acre sank from 980 to 632 pounds.

Residual supplies of mustard seed from the 2016-17 marketing year totalled 3,202 metric tons (MT), up from 470 at the start of that marketing campaign. As a result, the available supply of mustard grown in the United States dropped from 44,140 to 30,532 MT.
