Winter Durum Plantings Sink 41%

WASHINGTON - Jan 12/18 - SNS -- Durum wheat seedings in Arizona and California for 2018 harvest are estimated at a combined 74,000 acres, down 41% from 2017 and 51% below 2016, according to the USDA.

In Arizona, seeding was well underway by December 31 at 21% complete, 1 percentage point below last year. Planting has been underway in California since mid-December.
