Softer Undertone in Chickpeas
PANAMA - Dec 29/17 - SNS -- India's decision to eliminate the duty exemption on chickpeas with immediate effect on December 21 has generated official concern in Australia.
That country's industry relies on the Indian subcontinent to absorb its crop, with substantial quantities moving rapidly after harvest.
The lack of warning that the duty exemption would be lifted gave exporters no time to change shipping priorities on outstanding contracts.
