MELBOURNE - Dec 13/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge to the northern New South Wales coast. This high will move very slowly over the coming days, promoting the build up heatwave conditions over much of New South Wales. A weak front will pass through southern parts on Thursday, bringing some temporary minor relief during Thursday or Friday, but with the northern inland unaffected. Temperatures are generally forecast to rise during the weekend and early next week, bringing severe to extreme heatwave conditions to most areas away from the coast. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and mostly clear. Northwesterly winds inland tending northeasterly near the coast, fresh along central and southern parts of the coast.Thursday 14 DecemberHot to very hot in central districts and over the northwest. The very slight chance of a shower in the south and west. The chance of an afternoon thunderstorm in the southeast, central west and northwest, with little if any rain. Fine and mostly sunny in the northeast. Daytime temperatures above average throughout. Northeast to northwesterly winds, fresh through the central west and southeast, ahead of a milder south to southwesterly change through the south and far west.Fire Danger - Severe: Greater Sydney and Illawarra/Shoalhaven fire districts. Very High: North Coast, Greater Hunter, Southern Ranges, Central Ranges, and Northwestern fire districts.Friday 15 DecemberFine and mostly sunny over the southwest and far northeast. The slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm elsewhere, more likely over the ranges. Hot over the central and northern inland, with temperatures also above average elsewhere. Mostly northwest to southwesterly winds inland, and southeast to northeasterly on the coast.Saturday 16 DecemberFine and mostly sunny along the north coast and in the southwest. The slight chance of a shower or thunderstorm elsewhere, more likely over the ranges. Hot to very hot in most parts, with temperatures well above average. Northeast to northwesterly winds across the north and central east, tending south to southwesterly across the southwest and far southeast.Sunday 17 DecemberHot to very hot west of the Divide. The chance of a shower or thunderstorm over the ranges, western slopes and adjacent plains. Fine and partly cloudy over the coast, eastern slopes and the far west. Daytime temperatures above average, especially west of the Divide.
