MELBOURNE - Dec 12/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of South Australia was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A trough of low pressure near Ceduna is forecast to move over remaining western, central and southern districts during today, then over the northeast of the State on Thursday. A high pressure system will follow the trough, moving over the Bight on Friday, Tasmania on Saturday and the southern Tasman Sea on Sunday. Another trough is likely to move over the west early next week. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayA slight chance of showers west of about Ernabella/Pukatja to Whyalla to Naracoorte, increasing to a moderate to high chance of west of about Ceduna. Isolated thunderstorms west of about Ceduna to Ernabella/Pukatja, mainly in the afternoon with the chance of thunder developing south of about Cleve to Coonawarra during the late afternoon and evening. Hot to very hot with freshening northerly winds, possibly raising areas of dust over inland parts of the State, ahead of a milder southwesterly change moving across the west during the morning, then central and eastern districts during the afternoon and evening.Thursday 14 DecemberA slight chance of showers about agricultural areas and western coasts easing during the morning and contracting to the Lower South East coast by the end of the day. Possible early morning thunder over agricultural areas east of Spencer Gulf. A slight to medium chance of showers and possible isolated thunderstorms north of a line near Coober Pedy to Renmark, but not in the northeast of the North East Pastoral district. Hot to very hot in the far northeast with moderate northwesterly winds with milder, moderate southwest to southeasterly winds elsewhere.Friday 15 DecemberA slight chance of afternoon showers and possible thunderstorms north of about Marree to Marla. A slight chance of early morning showers about the southern coasts. Mild to warm about southern coasts grading to hot inland and very hot in the far northeast. Moderate southwest to southeasterly winds.Saturday 16 December Fine apart from a slight chance of a shower about the Lower South East coast. Mild to warm over agricultural areas grading to hot to very hot in the far northeast. Moderate southwest to southeasterly winds turning northeasterly in the far west. Cumulative rainfall totals until midnight Saturday will be generally less than 2 mm, increasing to 2 to 10 mm with thunderstorms. Localised falls reaching 10 to 30 mm with thunderstorms are possible in the west. Sunday until TuesdayA chance of showers developing in the west on Sunday, extending eastwards across the State early next week.
