MELBOURNE - Dec 12/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the the western Tasman Sea extends a ridge along the New South Wales coast, while a broad, weak trough lies over the inland. The high will move very slowly during the next few days, allowing increasingly hot air to be drawn down from central Australia. A weak front will affect the south and west of the state on Thursday and Friday but will not reach the northern inland which will remain hot. The fall in temperatures behind the front in affected parts of the state will be short lived with generally hot conditions persisting over the weekend, especially inland. Forecast for the rest of TuesdayFine and mostly clear, apart from some cloud persisting on the south coast and adjacent eastern ranges. Light and variable winds inland, tending northeast to southeasterly near the coast.Wednesday 13 DecemberFine and mostly sunny. Hot to very hot inland. Hot on parts of the ranges and eastern slopes. Northwesterly winds inland tending northeasterly near the coast, fresh along the south coast.Fire Danger - Very High in the Greater Hunter, Greater Sydney, Southern Ranges, Central Ranges, and ACT Fire Areas.Thursday 14 DecemberThe slight chance of an odd shower or thunderstorm across the south and on parts of the ranges and coast. Fine and partly cloudy in the remainder. Hot to very hot in most areas, though a cooler change moving into southern parts. Northeast to northwesterly winds, shifting southerly in the south during the day.Friday 15 DecemberMedium to high chance of showers in eastern districts with possible thunderstorms. Fine and partly cloudy in the western inland. Hot inland, with temperatures also above average on the coast and ranges. Mostly northwest to southwesterly winds inland, southeast to northeasterly on the coast.Saturday 16 DecemberShowers and possible thunderstorms through most eastern districts, and possibly in the northwest. Fine and mostly sunny in the southwest. Hot to very hot in most parts.
