Lentils End Week on Fearful Note
PANAMA - Nov 10/17 - SNS -- International lentil markets weakened during the past week out of fear the Indian government will increase import duties.
This was clearly reflected in prices paid to Canadian farmers, with bids for No 2 Canada or better farmers dressed red lentils delivered western Canadian processing plants dropping 19% to around U.S. $295 per metric ton (MT), while grower bids for No 2 Canada large green lentils sank 17% to $575 MT.
Other than recent editorials in India's newspapers, there are no official indications that Indian plans to raise the import duty on lentils or impose quotas as it did with pigeon peas, mung and black mapte beans.
