Little Change in Field Peas

PANAMA - Oct 6/17 - SNS -- Few changes were reported in international field pea markets through the past week, though markets remain concerned about the depth of demand from the Indian subcontinent.

Importers in India now face non-compliance penalties if product from Canada is not fumigated. That is happening at a time when there are substantial inventories of pulses, the government is selling buffer stocks, and allowing exports of all pulses. The combination seems to be making many buyers hesitant.

Uncertainty about demand is compounded by a public debate in the country over whether to limit field pea imports through quotas and/or end the current exemption from import duties.
