MELBOURNE - Aug 21/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A ridge of high pressure lies across Victoria as a weakening low pressure system moves across central New South Wales. The ridge will persist over northern Victoria on Tuesday as a cold front approaches from the southwest. This cold front will cross Victoria during Wednesday, then a high pressure system over the Bight will extend a ridge over northern Victoria on Thursday. The ridge will strengthen over Victoria later in the day and persist over the State during Friday. Forecast for the rest of MondayIsolated showers over the eastern districts contracting to the east and clearing by early evening, falling as snow above 1000 metres. Patchy fog developing later this evening. Cloud clearing in the west, although remaining mostly cloudy in the east with light to moderate northeast to northwesterly winds.Tuesday 22 AugustMorning fog and frost. Isolated showers over the southwest coast, extending inland over southwestern districts during the afternoon and evening and becoming scattered near the coast at night. A cool to mild day with cloud increasing during the afternoon. Light to moderate west to northwesterly winds.Wednesday 23 AugustPatchy morning fog in the northeast. Scattered showers over the southwest extending to remaining parts by early afternoon. Showers falling as snow above 1500 metres lowering to 1200 metres by late evening. Showers tending isolated over the far northwest and east Gippsland. A cool to mild and mostly cloudy day. Moderate west to northwesterly winds, fresh at times in the south, shifting west to southwesterly during the day.Thursday 24 AugustIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, tending scattered near the coast until evening. Dry over the northern plains. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with light to moderate west to southwesterly winds.Friday 25 AugustIsolated showers about the southern coasts, extending inland in the southwest for a period in the afternoon and early evening.
