WASHINGTON - Aug 10/17 - SNS -- Rice production in the U.S. is forecast at 186 million cwt (100 pound units), down 17% from 2016, according to the latest USDA production estimate's of the season.
If realized, production will be the lowest since 2011. Area for harvest is expected to total 2.48 million acres, unchanged from the June forecast but down 20% from 2016. Based on conditions as of August 1, the average United States yield is forecast at 7,513 pounds per acre, up 276 pounds per acre from 2016. If realized, a record high yield is expected in Missouri.
