More Poor Pea Fields Than Good

WASHINGTON - Aug 1/17 - SNS -- Field pea crop conditions differed greatly across the United States, with the result the proportion rated good to excellent improved slightly to 17% even as the proportion rated in very poor or poor condition increased to 46%.

The two most important producing states are Montana and North Dakota, where 54% and 48% of the crop, respectively, is rated in very poor or poor conditions on account of hot and drop growing conditions. Heat has been a negative factor in parts of the U.S. Pacific Northwest, with crop reporters flowers have aborted.

Conditions are also rushing maturity in crops. Around 29% of the U.S. crop has now been harvested, compared to 17% at this time last year. As grower deliveries pick up pace, processors and exporters will get a strong sense of yields and quality.
