Little Change in U.S. Bean Condition
WASHINGTON - Aug 1/17 - SNS -- The conditions of dry edible bean in the United States deteriorated slightly over the past week, with 42% of the U.S. dry edible bean crop rated in fair to very poor condition.
Even so, half of all bean fields in North Dakota are now rated in good to excellent condition despite drought conditions. States crop reporters say 91% of the crop has or is now blooming, while half are setting pods, compared to 63% at this time last year and the recent average of 51%.
Growing conditions have improved considerably in Michigan. Warm, dry weather was dominant throughout the state the past week, with a few rain events occurring across central Michigan mid-week. Rain that was received came at a critical time for crop development, although most areas were in need of additional precipitation to help the crops along. Daytime temperatures also offered ideal conditions for growth.
Crop reporters ion Minnesota say last week's warm and dry conditions were beneficial for row crop development, though some areas could use some rainfall.
