MELBOURNE - Jul 22/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A low pressure trough over the State will clear eastwards overnight as a cold front approaches from the west. The front will reach far southwest Victoria early Sunday then will weaken as it moves eastwards across the State. A second front will follow through Bass Strait Sunday night. The high pressure system will pass to the north of Victoria on Monday, then another front will approach from the west during Tuesday, crossing the State on Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of SaturdayIsolated showers contracting northwards tonight, but further showers reaching the far southwest. Moderate to fresh northerly winds, strong at times in the south and over Alpine areas.Sunday 23 JulyScattered showers extending across the State during the morning, most frequent about the southwest and the eastern ranges and falling as snow above 1500 metres. Isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible over western and central districts. Generally dry over east Gippsland and over the far northwest. Showers contracting to southern and mountain districts during the evening. A cool to mild day with moderate to fresh northerly winds, reaching gale force over the Alpine peaks, tending westerly during the afternoon and slowly moderating.Monday 24 JulyAreas of morning fog and isolated frosts, mainly over the north. Isolated showers about southern and mountain districts, falling as snow above 1300 metres. Showers extending to remaining areas apart from the far northwest and far southeast during the afternoon and evening. A cool to mild day with light to moderate westerly winds.Tuesday 25 JulyMorning fog patches across the north. Isolated showers about the eastern ranges, falling as snow above 1600 metres, extending to most remaining districts during the afternoon and evening and becoming scattered about the southwest. A generally mild day with moderate to locally fresh north to northwesterly winds.Wednesday 26 JulyScattered showers, more widespread about the southwest coast and eastern ranges and falling as snow above 1400 metres, lowering to 1000 metres at night. Only isolated showers over the far northwest.
