Drought Fears Mount in Lentils

PANAMA - Jul 8/17 - SNS -- International green lentil markets finished the week's trading with a firm undertone against worries about moisture conditions in key lentil producing areas in North America.

Drought in the eastern half of Montana and much of North Dakota has raised concern among processors in the United States about the yield potential of a significant portion of this year's crop.

Montana is now the primary lentil producing state in that country, accounting for 620,000 of the 1.015 million acres sown this year. North Dakota is the second most important producing state, with 300,000 acres of lentils, followed by the Pacific Northwest with just 95,000 acres.
