U.S. Peanut Plantings Rise 9%

WASHINGTON - Jun 30/17 - SNS -- Growers planted an estimated 1.82 million acres of peanuts in 2017, up 9% from 2016 and represents the highest planted area since 1991, according to the USDA's seeded area estimates for 2017.

Area for harvest is forecast at 1.77 million acres, up 15% from the previous year. In Georgia, the largest peanut-producing State, planted area is up 18% from 2016. Planted acres in South Carolina represent a record high for that State.
