Lentil Spot Market Eases

PANAMA - Jun 4/17 - SNS -- International lentil markets finished the week on an easier note in old crop markets, while new crop was generally unchanged.

Canadian lentil exports through the end of April set a new record, with 2.12 million metric tons (MT) moving out of the country in bulk vessels and containers. Another 71,000 MT was loaded to bulk vessels in May, with the result exports have already set a new marketing year record.

Additional bulk vessel shipments will occur in June, given the accumulation of stocks in Vancouver and continued efforts to buy product from growers. However, after the end of the month pulse shipments to India need to be fumigated and bulk movement. If the product needs to be fumigated on arrival the importer will be fined for non compliance.
