MELBOURNE - May 25/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A weak cold front will cross southern Victoria Thursday evening with a high pressure ridge to extend over Victoria on Friday following the front. The ridge will move eastwards on Saturday ahead of a stronger cold front that reaches far western Victoria on Saturday night. The cold front will sweep across the State early Sunday, with another strong cold front to follow on Tuesday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayScattered showers over the southwest and central districts this evening with isolated showers extending over the northeast and Gippsland later this evening. Showers clearing from the southwest later tonight Remaining dry in the northwest. Light to moderate northwesterly winds tending southwesterly in the south later tonight.Friday 26 MayIsolated light showers or drizzle in the south and east during the morning clearing by the afternoon. Isolated showers possible in the north, mainly about the northern slopes of the divide. Areas of morning fog inland, mainly over the west. A cool to mild and partly cloudy day with a light to moderate northwesterly wind freshening in the southwest later.Saturday 27 MayEarly fogs in Gippsland. Isolated showers developing over the northern slopes of the divide during the day. Scattered showers developing over the southwest during the late afternoon and evening, extending eastwards at night and becoming more extensive with isolated showers extending to the north. Isolated thunderstorms possible over the far southwest during the evening. Snow possible about the Alpine peaks later at night. A mild day with a freshening northerly wind.Sunday 28 MayScattered showers over southern and mountain districts, most extensive about the eastern ranges and southwest coast. Showers tending isolated over the northwest. Isolated thunderstorms and local hail in the south with snowfalls above 1000 metres. A cool to cold day with fresh and gusty westerly winds, strong at times near the coast.Monday 29 MayIsolated showers over southern and mountain districts, tending scattered about the coast and eastern ranges. Dry over the north.
