Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - May 24/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over northern South Australia will shift slowly eastwards over the next few days and move into the Tasman Sea over the weekend. A weak surface trough over the interior of Queensland will move eastwards through the remainder of today and will clear off the southeast coast of Queensland early on Thursday morning. The high will then extend a ridge through much of Queensland in the wake of the trough. Another surface trough is likely to move eastward across the state on Sunday with another high pressure system developing over southern Australia in its wake.
Forecast for the rest of WednesdayFine and clear for much of the state. A medium to high chance of showers about the northeast coast, mostly north of Cairns. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds, fresh at times about about the east coast north of Cairns.Thursday 25 MayFine and sunny for much of the state with just the slight chance of showers about the exposed east coast north of about Ingham. Some patchy morning fog about eastern parts of the state. Light to moderate southwest to southeast winds in the south. Mostly moderate southeast to northeasterly winds elsewhere, fresh at times about about the east coast north of CairnsFriday 26 MayThe next weak upper trough will move through central Australia and across southern Queensland. The high will shift off the northern New South Wales coast and into the Tasman Sea late in the day, maintaining a weak ridge through Queensland. A slight to medium chance of showers about parts of the east coast, mostly in the north. Fine and mostly sunny conditions elsewhere. A cooler morning in the southern interior with the slight chance of frost near the Carnarvon Ranges and Granite Belt.Saturday 27 MayThe weak upper trough will move across central and southeastern Queensland, slightly increasing instability. The high will shift slowly across the Tasman Sea maintaining a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. A slight to medium chance of showers about the east coast and extending to the adjacent inland areas, with a medium to high chance of showers about the southeast coast and North Tropical Coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Sunday 28 MayThe high in the Tasman Sea will push further east, maintaining a weak ridge along the east Queensland coast. A surface trough will move eastwards across the south of the state with a slight to medium chance of showers through the southern and southeastern interior with its passage, mainly near the border with New South Wales. A slight chance of showers about the east coast, most likely about the northeast coast. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere.Monday until WednesdayThe next high will move slowly across the southeast of the country through the outlook period with a a ridge persisting across southern Queensland. Fine and mostly sunny conditions will continue across most of the state. However, fresh to strong southeasterly winds will lead to a medium to high chance of showers about the east coast north of about Ingham. A slight chance of showers will persist about the remaining east coast, mostly on the central and northern east coast. Cool mornings developing about the southern and southeast interior with frosts likely to return on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Thursday.Product IDQ10700
