Lentils Seedings Advance Slowly

PANAMA - May 14/17 - SNS -- Seeding of this year's lentil crops in North America continues to advance at a slow pace, with markets concerned forecasts for cool and damp weather in Saskatchewan will cause further delays.

The story is similar in the United States, with plantings advancing at a below average pace in the Pacific Northwest and North Dakota, but near normal in Montana, which is expected to account for 55% of seeded area in that country.

The pace of seeding is not yet at a worrisome stage, but it suggests exporters might face difficulty meeting opening season shipping commitments because the harvest will not become general as early as during the previous two years.
