MELBOURNE - Apr 25/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front over central Victoria will move rapidly across eastern Victoria this morning. A cold, strong and unstable southwesterly airflow following the front will moderate on Thursday as a large high pressure system develops over the Bight. The high will then drift slowly towards Victoria, maintaining a cool southwesterly airflow across the State then extend a ridge over Victoria on Saturday. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayShowers with local hail extending throughout this morning although only isolated showers over the northwest. Showers contracting to southern and mountain areas during the late afternoon and evening. Isolated thunderstorms clearing from the west by the early afternoon. Snowfalls developing above 1000 metres. A cold day with fresh to strong and gusty south to southwesterly winds moderating this evening.Fire Danger - High to Very High in the northwest; Low to Moderate elsewhere.Thursday 27 AprilMorning frost patches in the northeast. Scattered showers over southern and mountain districts with light snowfalls over Alpine areas. Generally dry for the northern plains. A cold day with moderate southwesterly winds, gusty at times in the southeast.Friday 28 AprilScattered showers over southern and mountain areas, isolated showers in the north. Possible snow showers about the Alpine peaks. A cool day with west to southwesterly winds, fresh at times in the south.Saturday 29 AprilScattered showers over southern and mountain areas, clearing to the east coast by the evening. Patchy light showers over the northern plains during the afternoon.
