Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Apr 24/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A weakening high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the northern New South Wales coast this evening as a trough approaches from the west. A cold front currently over the Southern Ocean approaches from the southwest. The trough, followed by the cold front, will affect New South Wales during Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing widespread rain followed by a significantly cooler change. A new high pressure system is forecast to develop over The Bight during the second half of the week, extending a ridge eastwards in the front's wake and promoting generally fine weather, albeit with some cool mornings.
Forecast for the rest of MondayThe chance of a shower along the coast and ranges. Rain increasing over the far west and southern inland, mainly in the southwest. Mostly fine and partly cloudy over the northern and central inland. Northeast to northwesterly winds, tending light and variable in the northeast.Tuesday 25 AprilRain and possible thunder in the southwest and far west, shifting to central, southeastern and northern inland districts during the day. Moderate to heavy falls possible about the Alps and adjacent areas. A fine day in the northeast, with possible rain at night. North to northwesterly winds, fresh at times over the ranges, and turning cooler west to southwesterly in the southwest.Wednesday 26 AprilRain and possible thunder in the northeast, clearing in the afternoon. Showers in most remaining districts, more frequent in the southeast where there is also the chance of thunder and possible small hail. Snow on the Alps above 1500 metres at first, extending to 1000 metres on the southern ranges later in the day. Generally fine in the far west. Cool, fresh and gusty west to southwesterly winds extending throughout.Thursday 27 AprilMorning frosts about the ranges and slopes. The slight chance of a shower along the far southern coast and ranges, with snow above 1000 metres on the Alps at first. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Cool south to southwest winds, fresh and gusty near the coast.Friday 28 AprilMorning frost about the ranges slopes. The slight chance of a shower about the southern border area. Fine and partly cloudy elsewhere. South to southwesterly winds, fresh about the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Tuesday.Product IDN10031
