Chickpea Spreads to Widen

PANAMA - Apr 2/17 - SNS -- Chickpea markets finished the week on a firmer note against worries that supplies of good quality, large caliber product will again be limited this year.

Mexico is the premium supplier in the world and prices for that origin are increasing, helped by unexpected demand from India and difficulty covering earlier sales with growers.

Production of 8mm to 9mm chickpeas will undoubtedly be higher this year, but those are not substitutable for 11mm and 12mm chickpeas, suggesting the price spreads between the sizes could increase.
