Australia -- New South Wales Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Mar 28/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of New South Wales was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A high pressure system over the Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards northeast New South Wales, while a broad trough extends across the state's northwest. This trough will remain in place through Wednesday, while the Tasman Sea high helps drag humid tropical down from Queensland. During Thursday a cold front will bring a vigorous southerly change to southern and western districts, extending to the northeast on Friday. The interaction between this front and the humid airmass from the north is forecast to generate widespread rain across eastern districts, with moderate to heavy falls likely. Heavy rain is most favourable in the northeast, potentially assisted by a deepening low near the Queensland border later Thursday or Friday. Conditions are expected to ease later Friday as the front and low move away to the east, although a new high developing south of the Bight will bring follow-up showers to eastern areas.

Northerly winds in the northeast, and southeast to southwesterly winds elsewhere.Wednesday 29 MarchFine across the south and west. The odd shower or two elsewhere in the afternoon and a possible thunderstorm about the central and northern ranges. Northwest to northeasterly winds, freshening along the coast and across the southern ranges. Winds turning southwesterly in the west later. Hot day in the northwest.Thursday 30 MarchRain areas in the east, likely heavy about much of the coast and tablelands, particularly in the northeast. The chance of thunderstorms in the northeast. A few showers in central districts, clearing during the day. Fine and mostly sunny in the west. Northerly winds in the northeast, with a fresh to strong, gusty southerly change extending through the remainder.Friday 31 MarchShowers or rain areas in the far northeast, likely heavy at first, and the risk of thunderstorms. A shower or two about southern and central parts of the coast. Fine and partly cloudy in the west. Southerly winds throughout, fresh to strong across the northern half, possibly reaching gales force on the northern coast.Saturday 1 AprilA shower or two along the coast, possibly extending to the tablelands in the north. Fine and mostly sunny elsewhere. Southerly winds, fresh in the west, and fresh to strong about the northern half of the coast.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EDT Wednesday.Product IDN10031
