World Lentils Worry About India

PANAMA - Feb 12/17 - SNS -- International lentils markets were little changed during the past week, though some weakness was evident in prices paid to growers for farmers dressed product on spot markets.

Updates to official export data through the end of December suggest quantities sold on Canadian domestic markets between August 1 and December 31 totalled just 118,406 metric tons (MT). This is down sharply from the previous year's inferred domestic usage of almost 190,000 MT and below the previous five-year average of almost 136,000 MT.

More significantly, lentil exports during that five month period were down roughly 90,000 MT from the previous season at 1.44 million MT, while available supplies were up 416,000 MT at 3.32 million.
