Lower Mustard Area Forecast For 2017

PANAMA - Jan 20/17 - SNS -- There is general agreement mustard seed acreage in Canada will decline this year.

Growers are expected to respond to slower than hoped movement and a significant decline in prices paid in both spot and new crop markets.

What is in doubt, is the degree of change. Estimated declines range from 22% to 33% or from 525,000 acres of all classes of mustard in 2016 to under 410,000 acres this year. Grower bid performance so far this season suggest most of the drop will be in yellow and oriental mustard seed.
