MELBOURNE - Jan 17/17 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A large high pressure system south of the Bight will move slowly eastwards on Wednesday passing to the south of Tasmania on Thursday. A low pressure trough is expected to extend from the interior down through South Australia on Thursday to reach western Victoria Thursday night. The trough will cross Victoria on Friday, with a low pressure centre expected to develop along the trough as it moves rapidly eastwards across the State. The low will move across the Tasman Sea on Saturday as the next high pressure system approaches from the west. Forecast for the rest of WednesdayScattered light showers in the south contracting northwards during the morning and becoming isolated, then clearing in the afternoon. Dry over the far northwest. Mild in the south grading to warm in the north with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Fire Danger - Generally highThursday 19 JanuaryDry over most districts during the day, but scattered showers extending from the western border during the evening with isolated thunderstorms possible over the far northwest at night. Mild in the south and warmer in the north. Southeasterly winds becoming light inland, but fresh seabreezes developing along the coast during the afternoon.Friday 20 JanuaryRain areas moving eastwards across the State during the morning, but scattered showers to follow over southern and mountain districts. Cool to mild with winds tending fresh southwesterly.Saturday 21 JanuaryFine apart from isolated early morning showers in the south, mainly near the coast.
