Holiday Mode in Lentils

PANAMA - Dec 23/16 - SNS -- The world's lentil markets entered holiday mode during the past week, limiting trading activity and leaving prices mostly unchanged.

Market sentiment is not being helped by a slowing bulk export movement in Canada. There are enough lentils in position for another vessel to be loaded before the end of the calendar year.

Bulk loadings through the end of December are ahead of last year, but only by a slim margin. Movement is typically slower during the Christmas and New Year's holiday season, suggesting stocks of all classes of lentils are rising more quickly than expected relative to prospective demand.
