Peas Concerned About Indian Rules

PANAMA - Dec 17/16 - SNS -- Field pea markets ended the week's trading nervous about demand prospects in 2017 because of the potential loss of two important exemptions affecting pulse trade to India.

India's pulse trade is certain those exemptions will be allowed to expire on March 31.

The first, discussed last week, is the exemption which allows pulses from Canada, France, and the United States to be shipped without being fumigated with methyl bromide at source. The waivers have been in place in since 2004, but needed to be extended every six to 12 months. The current exemption expires on March 31 and markets do not believe it will be extended.
