World Expects Same or More Lentils

PANAMA - Dec 3/16 - SNS -- Lentil markets maintained their firm tone through the past week, despite indications world production will be little changed to higher in 2017.

The USDA reckons land in that country's eight major crops will drop from 254.1 million acres this year to a forecast 248.9 million in 2017. Most of the decline is accounted for by corn and wheat. This opens land for pulses and other minor crops.

Given the market performance of lentils in both the United States and Canada so far this season, there is a good chance farmers will increase area in green lentils in both the United States and Canada.
