Canada Completes Chickpea Harvest

PANAMA - Nov 27/16 - SNS -- Canada's chickpea harvest was essentially completed by the third week of November, with Saskatchewan Agriculture reporting 94% of the crop was in the bin.

Significant progress was made in the days after October 24, when just 25% of Saskatchewan's crop had been harvested. By contrast, Alberta's harvest was mostly complete by that time.

Some processors and farmers say chickpeas handled the wet and cold harvest better than expected, with the result a higher proportion of the crop than feared is usable in export markets.
