Rabi Pulses Up Over Last Year

DELHI - Nov 25/16 - SNS -- India's farmers made above average seeding progress during the past week, lifting land in pulses to 9.509 million hectares.

Area sown so far is up almost 8% from the 8.812 million in the ground by this time last year, but remains below the recent five-year average of 10.15 million sown by the Thanksgiving Day weekend.

For the third week in a row, farmers planted over 2 million hectares of pulses. The pace of seeding is normally slower from this point forward. On average another 4.79 million hectares of pulses were planted through the end of February.
