Field Peas Remain Firm

PANAMA - Nov 19/16 - SNS -- North American field pea markets maintained their firm tone through the past week against increasing optimism among growers about price prospects.

Even so, farmers in Canada have been relatively aggressive sellers, delivering 41% of their available supply of peas to the bulk handling system between August 1 and November 13, compared to just over 37% last year. Information about deliveries to processors is not available and can only be inferred from future export data.

Progress seeding this year's rabi season pulse crops in India is also seen as potentially supportive of demand in 2017. The situation is fluid and can change rapidly, but markets are encouraged by the fact the area sown so far is 10% below the recent five-year average.
