Rabi Seeding Progress Remains Below Average

DELHI - Nov 18/16 - SNS -- Rabi seeding progress in India remains well ahead of last year, but continues to lag the recent five-year average by 10% according to the latest seeding progress report from the country's agriculture department.

At 2.531 million hectares, area sown by farmers during the past week was close to the five year average of 2.595, but well below the 3.275 million hectares planted during the same week last year.

During the balance of the rabi planting campaign, farmers have sown an average 6.648 million hectares of pulses, ranging from a low of 5.755 million in 2011-12 to a high of 11.01 million in 2010-11.
