Canadian Lentil Exports Start Slow

PANAMA - Nov 7/16 - SNS -- Canadian lentil exports have started the 2016-17 marketing campaign at a slower pace than last year, reflecting weather related delays harvesting this year's crop.

Official data available from Statistics Canada reveals that movement of all classes of lentils plunged 21.6% from 415,487 to 325,814 metric tons (MT).

Most of the drop was recorded in movement to the Indian subcontinent, with sales to India down almost 96,000 MT. That offset solid gains in export movement to Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.
