Better Than Expected Canada Exports

PANAMA - Nov 7/16 - SNS -- Canadian chickpea export movement has started the 2016-17 marketing campaign at a slower pace than last year.

Shipments to all destinations are down almost 5,000 metric tons (MT) at 14,169 because of a sharp drop in movement to the Indian subcontinent. Opening season shipments to Pakistan were off over 5,100 MT, while India took almost 1,700 MT less than during the same two-month period last year.

Significantly, Saskatchewan's harvest was only 3% complete by the end of the first week of September, compared to 13% the previous year and the recent five-year average of 18% complete by that time. The last harvest progress report showed that the harvest was 25% complete.
