MELBOURNE - Oct 23/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An upper trough over eastern Queensland will contracting northeast to the tropics by Monday, and then offshore completely during Tuesday. An associated surface trough is moving north along the northern coast. A high in the Great Australian Bight will move eastwards across southern Australia over the next few days, extending a ridge and cool air into Queensland. Forecast for the rest of SundayPatchy rain clearing off the southern Central Coast, Wide Bay and Burnett, and Capricornia districts during the rest of the afternoon and evening. A medium to high chance of showers with the slight chance of thunderstorms about the southern tropics, extending inland to the southern and central tropical interior. A slight chance of showers or thunderstorms on the western Cape York Peninsula north of about Kowanyama. Fine and mostly clear in southwest parts. Temperatures will be much lower than average over the interior. Moderate to fresh and gusty southeast to southwesterly winds in most parts, with east to northeasterly winds in the far northeast of the state.Monday 24 OctoberMedium to high chance of showers and possible storms about the northern and central tropics. A slight chance of showers about the exposed coast in the southeast. Fine and mostly sunny over the remainder of the state. Temperatures will remain lower than average over much of the state. Moderate to fresh east to southeasterly winds in most parts.Tuesday 25 OctoberThe high will shift off the southeastern Queensland coast into the southern Coral Sea, maintaining the ridge and showers along the northern Queensland coast. Showers and storms are also possible about parts of the Peninsula and Gulf coast. Fine and sunny across the rest of the state. Temperatures should return close to average in most parts.Wednesday 26 OctoberThe east coast ridge will persist on Wednesday as the high moves east across the southern Coral Sea. A slight to medium chance of showers about the northern tropical coast in a moist onshore flow, with showers also possible about the Gulf coast and Peninsula. Fine and sunny conditions will continue for the rest of the state. Temperatures will tend warmer than the average over southern and western districts.Thursday 27 OctoberAn upper trough will most likely shift east across southern districts, increasing the chances of showers and possibly storms in the southeast of the state. The high will shift further to the southeast towards northern New Zealand, but still maintain a weakening ridge along the northern Queensland coast with a slight chance of showers. Another high over the Great Australian Bight will move towards southeastern Australia.Friday until SundayThe southeast of the state may remain under the influence of an upper trough with showers and storms possible during the outlook period in the southeast, and extending to parts of central Queensland at times. The next high will move over southeastern Australia on Friday into the Tasman Sea on Saturday, firming the ridge along the east coast from Saturday with a slight to medium chance of showers in a moist, onshore flow.
