MELBOURNE - Oct 21/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation A strong cold front over eastern Victoria will move out over the Tasman Sea tonight then form a low pressure system to the east of Tasmania during Saturday, resulting in a cold, unstable south to southwesterly airflow over Victoria. This airflow will gradually moderate on Sunday as the low drifts further eastwards. The next high pressure system will be centred just to the west of Victoria by late Sunday then drift eastwards across the State on Monday. A cold front will approach the State on Tuesday and is likely to reach western areas at night then extend to eastern Victoria during Wednesday. Forecast for the rest of FridayA band of rain extending across central and eastern areas during the evening. Showers to follow across the south with isolated hail and thunder over the southwest. Snowfalls developing down to 900 metres over western Victoria. Mild at first in the east but a colder fresh southwesterly change reaching the east late tonight.Saturday 22 OctoberWidespread showers on and south of the ranges, tending to rain over eastern areas. Heavy falls likely about the East Gippsland ranges. Local hail and thunder over central and eastern districts contracting to the far east at night. Only isolated showers over the northwestern plains. Snow falls down to 800 metres. A cold day with moderate to fresh and gusty southwest to southerly winds, strong about the coast and ranges.Sunday 23 OctoberIsolated morning frost in the west. Mostly cloudy with scattered showers in the south becoming isolated in western areas. A cool to cold day with moderate to locally fresh southerly winds.Monday 24 OctoberLocal early frost inland, then a fine and mostly sunny day with only a slight chance of an early morning shower over the southeast. Generally cool to mild with light winds and afternoon coastal seabreezes.Tuesday 25 OctoberShowers developing in the west, mainly in the afternoon and evening.
