Australia -- Queensland Weather Update

MELBOURNE - Sep 30/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Queensland was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.

Weather Situation
A complex low over southeastern Australia will shift further southwards during the weekend while weakening. A weak high pressure system will drift eastwards over Queensland during Saturday, maintaining fine and dry conditions over much of the state. A new trough system will approach southwestern Queensland on Sunday and should then move rapidly east over the state during Monday.
Forecast for the rest of FridayA medium to high chance of showers and thunderstorms over the tropics, decreasing to a slight to medium chance during the evening. The slight to medium chance of showers developing this evening about the southern tropical coast and Whitsunday Islands this evening. Fine and clear elsewhere. Light to moderate north to northeasterly winds over the tropics. Light to moderate southwest to northwesterly winds elsewhere, fresh and gusty at times in the south.Saturday 1 OctoberThe slight to medium chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms over the tropical inland and near the west Peninsula coast, with the slight chance of a shower near the east tropical coast south of about Cooktown. Cloud increasing in the far west late in the day with the slight to medium chance of showers or gusty storms near the Northern Territory border at night. Fine and sunny elsewhere. Possible early frost patches over parts of the southeast interior. Light to moderate mostly northeasterly winds over the tropics. Light to moderate southwest to northwesterly winds elsewhere, gusty at times in the south.Sunday 2 OctoberThe next trough system will approach the southwest of the state, with a high to very high chance of rain areas and possible gusty storms extending through areas southwest of about Camooweal to Cunnamulla. The cloud band and some patchy rain will extend further east through remaining western districts and possibly also the western Darling Downs late in the day. The slight to medium chance of showers and storms will extend through the Gulf Country and about the west Peninsula coast. The slight chance of a shower is expected through the tropical and central interior. Fine, warm and mostly sunny conditions are expected in the southeast corner of the state, though cloud will likely increase at night.Monday 3 OctoberThe northern tropics will remain mostly fine with only the slight to medium chance of showers and storms, more likely near the west Peninsula coast. The trough and associated rain band with possible gusty storms will shift east over the remainder of the state, most likely contracting off the southern coast during the evening. A dry, cool airmass will gradually extend over western Queensland in the wake of the trough.Tuesday 4 OctoberThe trough will contract further offshore of the southern coast and should clear much of the central coast in the morning though may continue to slope back from the Coral Sea into the southern tropics. Fine, dry and sunny conditions will extend through the southern half of the state and into the Gulf Country in the wake of the trough. Some showers and storms are expected elsewhere in the unstable airmass to the north of the surface trough, particularly over inland parts. Maximum temperatures will be remain below the October average through western Queensland.Wednesday until FridayA high pressure system will move east over New South Wales during the outlook period, extending a ridge and fine and dry conditions into western, central and southern parts of Queensland. The trough over the southern tropics will shift further north, resulting in the chance of showers and storms also gradually contracting north to become confined to Cape York Peninsula by Friday. Winds will tend more onshore with some showers developing about the east tropical coast on Friday as the high shifts east into the Tasman Sea.The next routine forecast will be issued at 4:30 am EST Saturday.Product IDQ10700
