MELBOURNE - Sep 28/16 - SNS -- The current forecast for the state of Victoria was released by Australia's Bureau of Meteorology.
Weather Situation An intense low pressure system centred just to the west of Adelaide will drift eastwards and gradually weaken today, moving over western Victoria late this afternoon. The system is likely to become more complex tonight with more than one low pressure centre likely. The system will then drift southwards across Tasmania by Friday night resulting in a westerly airflow across Victoria on Saturday. The next cold front is expected to reach western Victoria late on Sunday. Forecast for the rest of ThursdayRain areas over the northeast at first this morning with some heavy falls contracting eastwards. Showers elsewhere, more frequent over northern districts. Isolated thunderstorms from late morning. Snowfalls down to 1000 metres over the west this morning and lowering to 1200 metres in the east tonight. Cool with fresh north to northwesterly winds, strong over the Mallee and gale force about the Alps early this morning.Friday 30 SeptemberScattered showers tending isolated in the northwest, falling as snow above 1000 metres, rising to 1400 metres in the afternoon. Showers heavier in the southwest and northeast. Cool to cold with light to moderate westerly winds tending fresh to strong and gusty southwesterly in the west.Saturday 1 OctoberScattered showers in the south and east, clearing from the west during the afternoon and falling as snow above 1400 metres. A cool to mild day with moderate westerly winds.Sunday 2 OctoberFine and mild at first. Rain developing in the west during the afternoon, reaching the east at night.
